Hawks Even Record with Doubleheader Sweep

MURFREESBORO - After falling in their 2009 season debut last Sunday, the baseball team evened their overall record at 2-2 after sweeping Davis and Elkins College in a doubleheader this afternoon. The Hawks won with final game scores of 6-0 and 11-3. The Hawks combined solid pitching performances with key hits to help propel them to the wins.

Chris Nelson tossed six innings in the first game, keeping Davis and Elkins off the board. Anthony O'Brien helped solidify the shut out after throwing the final inning of the game. Nelson moves to 1-1 after the shut out win.

Bryan Hill paced Chowan at the plate after going 2-3 while Justin Bagbey was 1-2 with a double and two runs batted in. Matt Crane was 1-2 with two runs scored and two walks. \

The Hawks got on the board first when Bagbey doubled in Jordan Whitlatch who reached base on a walk. They added five runs over the 5th and 6th innings to take the 6-0 win.

Mike Taylor accounted for six of Chowan's eleven total runs in the nightcap as the junior went 3-4 with a triple and a grandslam. John Kellett had a double with two runs batted in. Ryan Bradshaw picked up the win after throwing five innings and allowing no runs. Steve Humphrey and John Atkins# closed out the game tossing the 6th and 7th innings.

The Hawks, now 2-2, will host the Senators again tomorrow in a single, nine inning game. First pitch will be at 12:00pm.
