Hawks Back on Track after Win at St. Pauls

LAWRENCEVILLE, VA - After falling in their last two outings, the Hawks got back on track tonight with a 84-76 win at St. Pauls College. Senior guard Aaron Scott, a Lawrenceville, Virginia native, poured in a game-high 24 points in the game, including hitting 5-6 from the foul line down the stretch to help keep the Tigers out of striking distance.

After a tightly played first half that featured five lead changes and three ties, Scott and teammate Mark Brown helped the Hawks take a narrow 35-32 lead into halftime. Both players scored 11 first half points. Scott hit 3-4 from beyond the three point arch in the first half while Brown was 5-10 from the floor.

Chowan took control in the second half, getting up on the Tigers by double digits at two different points. Saint Paul's Davon West hit a three pointer with :31 to play in the game to cut the Hawks' lead to three points. Saint Pauls was forced to foul, sending Aaron Scott to the line six consecutive attempts. Scott drained 5-6 to help put the game away while Jaleel Nelson drained two shots from the charity stripe in the last :19 of the game to help keep the Tigers at bay. Nelson finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds. Brown had 17 points and six rebounds while Scott finished up with 24 points and five revounds.

Chowan improves to 11-9 overall after tonight's win. The Hawks had dropped their last two outings but shook the skid with tonight's victory. They will travel to Columbia Union College on Saturday in their next match up. Tip off for that game is set for 8:30pm. Chowan will return to the Helms Center on Tuesday, February 10th for a 7:30pm tip with the Apprentice School.
