Box Score 2 Box Scores vs. Sweetbriar
MURFREESBORO - The softball team took a doubleheader from Sweetbriar College this afternoon, moving them to 10-4 on the year. Chowan won game one 5-0 and took the second game with a final score of 6-2. The Hawks played six games in three days where they went 5-1, starting with a sweep of Virginia State on Friday, a split with St. Andrews College, and today's two wins.
Senior Shellie Wimpey threw a no-hitter in the 5-0 win. Wimpey struck out 14 batters in her 4th win of the season. Wimpey is currently averaging one strikeout per inning, with 48 strikeouts over 48.1 innings pitched this season. Wimpey got the run support she needed as the Hawks collected 12 hits as a team. Kaytee McLaughlin was perfect at the plate after going 3-3 with two runs scored. Brooke Owen continued to hit well as she batted 3-4 with two runs batted. Both Tricia Gorman and Alex Allen collected two hits in the win.
Allie Kolezynski picked up her 6th win of the season in the 6-2 night cap win. She also helped herself at the plate with two hits, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. She scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out 11 batters in the game. McLaughlin was 2-2 at the plate, making her 5-5 on the day while Gorman was 2-4 with a triple and two runs batted in.
The Hawks improve to 10-4 on the season. They will travel to Meredith College on Tuesday for a 1:00pm doubleheader before returning home for a four-game road stand with Mount Olive College on Thursday and Elizabeth City State University on Saturday.
