Box Score 2 Box Scores vs. Virginia State
MURFREESBORO - The softball team improved to 7-3 overall after sweeping Virginia State University in a double header this afternooon. The Hawks won game one 8-1 and followed that up with a 2-0 win. The Hawks pounded out 15 hits in the first game while Shellie Wimpey pitched a one hitter and struck out 14 Trojan batters in the nightcap.
The Trojans got on the board first in the game after they scored a run on two Chowan errors in the top of the first inning. It was all Chowan after that as they commenced to pounding out 15 hits and scoring eight runs. Allie Kolezynski held the Trojans to four hits while also striking out four batters on the mound for her 4th win of the season. Megan Bass was 3-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases in the win. Alex Allen and Tricia Gorman each had two hits and two runs batted in while Kaytee McLaughlin was 2-2 with a double and a run batted in.
Shellie Wimpey shut the Trojans down in the night cap as she threw a no-hitter through six innnings. She gave up just one hit in the game which came in the top of the 7th inning. Wimpey struck out 14 batters in her 3rd win of the season.
The Hawks were held to four hits in the shut out win with McLaughlin leading the way after going 2-3 with an RBI. Allie Hunka had a triple and a run scored in the game.
Chowan will host St. Andrews College tomorrow in a doubleheader and follow that up with a doubleheader with Sweetbriar on Sunday. Both play dates are set for 1:30pm.
