Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The softball team dropped a double header to Mount Olive College this afternoon, falling with final scores of 7-0 and 6-1. The losses move the Hawks to 12-6 on the season.
In the top of the third inning, with runners on second and third, Mount Olive took a 2-0 lead after Tiffany Taylor singled down the leftfield line to drove in Anna Munizza and Kat Cahoon. Once the Trojans took the lead they never looked back. Mount Olive went onto score five runs in the fourth inning to take the 7-0 win over the homestanding Hawks. Chowan tallied five hits but were unable to score any runs as they left 12 runners stranded in the game.
In the night cap the Hawks trailed 6-0 before they finally got on the board in the 6th inning when Mindy Bird tripled to right center field scoring Megan Bass. Ultimately it was not enough to spark a comeback for Chowan as they fell 6-1 to the Trojans.
For Chowan, Brooke Owen was 2-3 at the plate in the second game while Byrd finished up 1-3 with one RBI and a triple.
The Hawks fall to 12-6 on the season whereas the Trojans improve to 6-3-1 on the year.
