DUE WEST, SC - After winning thelast five out of six games to open the 2009 season, the softball team dropped a doubleheader at Erskine College this afternoon. The Hawks had a hard time getting their offense jump started, tallying only five hits in a 2-1 first game loss and striking out 14 times as a team in a 9-2 nightcap loss.

Chowan was led by Melissa Woodrum who collected three of Chowan's five total hits in the first game. Brooke Owen accounted for the Hawks solo run when she singled in Alex Allen. Shellie Wimpey picks up her second loss of the season on the mound after throwing all six innings.

Erskine's pitching staff collected 14 strikeouts in the nightcap. Tricia Gorman ws 1-3 with both runs scored. She also belted a solo homerun in the loss. Allie Kolezynski picked up her first loss on the mound after tossing five innings and giving up nine runs, six of which were unearned.

Chowan will host Mount Olive College on Wednesday in their next outing. The doubleheader is slated for 2:00pm.
