MURFREESBORO - The men's basketball team ran their overall record to 7-5 after beating Columbia Union College 88-61 in court action tonight. The Hawks dominated from the tip off in the win, their fifth in a row.
Chowan took an easy 43-27 lead into halftime after dominating the first half of play. The Hawks continued their dominate play in the second half, rolling to an 88-61 win over the Pioneers. Chowan controlled the boards with 40 rebounds to Columbia Union's 25 total rebounds while also hitting 89% (16-18) free throws in the game.
Five Chowan players scored in double figures with Aaron Scott leading the way with 19 points. Scott was 4-7 from the floor and 3-4 from three point land. Charles Rhodes hit a team-high four three pointers and from 7-12 from the floor to join Scott with 19 points. The Hawks hit ten three pointers in the game and continued their hot shooting streak, hitting 50% (31-62) of their shots taken in the game.
Layth Mansour hit for 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double night. Mark Brown continued to score for the Hawks with 13 points and eight rebounds. Despite early foul troubles Jaleel Nelson came in with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists on the night.
The Hawks will take off until January 8th when they will host CIAA powerhouse Virginia Union University. Tip off for that game is set for 7:30pm.
