WILSON, NC - After the visiting Hawks took a 41-37 lead into halftime, Barton College surged ahead late in the second half to take an 84-76 win. Tonight's game featured 16 lead changes and six ties but it was the Bulldogs that came away with the win, their 14th of the season.
The Hawks shot 1-9 from three point range in the second half after hitting 6-9 in the first half of play. Despite the Hawks putting four players in double-figures, the Bulldogs took advantage of shots from the charity stripe as they drained 18-20 from the line in the second half alone.
Mark Brown poured in 19 points and was 7-10 from the floor to lead Chowan while Aaron Scott hit for 16 points off the bench. Charles Rhodes and Jaleel Nelson chipped in 14 and 10 points respectively in the loss, the team's ninth of the season.
Chowan will continue with their four-game road stand as they travel to St. Pauls College on February 5th. They will follow that game up with a trip to Columbia Union College on February 7th and then return to the Helms Center on February 10th when they host the Apprentice School.
The Hawks fall to 10-9 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 14-4 overall.
