DURHAM, NC - With his team trailing by one point and 15 ticks left on the game clock junior Aaron Scott came through in a big way after hitting the game-winning three pointer. Tonight's 72-70 win is the Hawks' 9th of the season and featured five ties and ten lead changes. Nine of those ten lead changes came in the second half of play.
Scott's three pointer was his second shot on the Hawks' final possession of the game. His initial shot inside the perimeter was off the mark. He quickly grabbed the his own rebound, kicked the ball to Mark Brown and set himself up for a quick three pointer, giving the Hawks a 72-70 lead with :06 to play. NC Central made one last ditch effort to force the game into overtime but their final shot fell short.
The Hawks went on to their 9th win of the season behind Scott's game-winner. Chowan bounced back offensively after suffering a 33% shooting outing against St. Augustine's on Friday night with 25-51 shots made for 49% from the floor in tonight's win. Charles Rhodes paced the team with 19 points and was 5-10 from the floor, 3-6 from three point land, and a perfect 6-6 from the foul line.
Scott ended the game with 13 points while teammates Lando Morrison and Jaleel Nelson each added 13 points of their own. Layth Mansour added 10 points in the win.
Chowan will face off against CIAA powerhouse Elizabeth City State University in their next outing on January 20th. Tip off for that game, featuring the CIAA's top scorer in Anthony Hilliard, is slated for 7:30pm at the Helms Center.
