Chowan wins 8th game in of their last 10 outings

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The men's basketball team held on to a 74-70 win at the Apprentice School in court action this evening, marking their 8th win of the season. The Hawks have won their last eight games in ten outings to move to 8-6 on the year. Four Chowan players scored in double figures in the win as they shot 53% from the floor.

Chowan's Chris Kenon converted a three pointer at the 7:09 mark of the first half to give Chowan a two point 23-21 lead, a lead that the Hawks would maintain through the remainder of the game. In fact the Hawks got up by as many as 14 points in the second half of play. The Builders attempted a late comeback but Chowan's spread was too much to cover as they held on to the 74-70 win.

Chowan's Layth Mansour notched a double-double as he poured in a team-high 17 points and pulled down 12 boards. The sophomore also dished out three assists in the win. Mark Brown continued to play well on the court for Chowan as he not only scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, he also had five assists, four blocked shots, and three steals. Charles Rhodes chipped in 13 points while Aaron Scott came off the bench to score 11 points. Jaleel Nelson had eight points and six assists in the win.

The Hawks will travel to compete in the NC Central/BC Powder Classic on Friday and Saturday. They will play against CIAA member St. Augustine's College at 5:30pm on Friday and then against host-team NC Central on Saturday at 7:30pm.
