Women's Soccer Holds of Mount Olive

Box Scores vs. Mount Olive College

MURFREESBORO - The women's soccer team improved to 2-1 overall after a 3-1 win over visiting Mount Olive College this afternoon. The Hawks took a narrow 2-1 lead into the half but solidified the match with a goal in the 67th minute.

The Hawks tallied 18 shots on the day, 12 of those game in the first half. Three different Hawks scored goals with Meredith McCarthy breaking the ice. McCarthy took a crossed ball from Clara Danzeisen and stuck it near post for the 1-0 lead over the Trojans. Mount Olive's Aleycia Higgins punched in a goal from about five yards out on a service from Lindsey Stanley and Jackie Jiminez to tie the match at 1-1. Katelyn Mahoney broke the tie in the 30th minute on an unassisted goal made from about 20 yards out.

Ashley Bradford netted her third goal of the season in the 67th minute on an assist from Katie Perkins. Bradford's goal along with a great defensive effort was all the Hawks needed to take the 3-1 win. Kristy Brown started in goal and tallied eight saves and gave up one goal. The Hawks will travel to Belmont Abbey College on Saturday for their next match up. That match is slated to start at 2:00pm.
