FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA - Chowan claimed stake to the 2008 NCCAA South Region Baseball Championship after beating Emmanuel College twice this afternoon. The Hawks won game one 9-5 and game two 16-9. Chowan battled back after dropping their opening round game on Thursday to #3 Palm Beach Atlantic. They edged #1 Southern Wesleyan University 7-6 to advance to the loser bracket finals where they ousted PBA to secure a spot in the championship game. To claim the title they had to beat undefeated Emmanuel College twice. With today's wins the Hawks move to 34-18 overall.

Fourth year skipper Aaron Carroll guided this senior class to two titles after winning in 2005 as freshman. Today's wins marks Carroll's 200th win as a collegiate head coach and the program set new marks for single season wins two weeks ago with back-to-back wins over Newport News Apprentice School.

Mark Peterson pitched the win in game one after tossing 6 2/3 innings. John Morris came in with the potential game-tying run on deck and go the final out of the game to pick up the save in the 9-5 win. Joey Ryder had his second grand slam of the season and was 2-4 with four RBI in the win. Justin Hollingsworth was also 2-4 at the plate. The win put the Hawks dead even with Emmanuel for the championship title.

In a slug fest, the Hawks prevailed in game two 16-9. The Hawks used three pitchers with Brandon Hamlett coming in for relief of Brian Hill with the game notched at 6-6. Hamlett held steady on the mound for the remainder of the game and picked up the win. Ryder was perfect at the plate, going 4-4 with three RBI while Zack Beasley was 3-4 with a homerun and three RBI. Hamlett was also great at the plate with three RBI and two hits.

The Hawks gain their second NCCAA South Region Title in four seasons and put six players on the NCCAA All South Region Team. They automatically advance to the NCCAA World Series hosted by Geneva College (PA) in Struthers, Ohio at Bob Cene Park.
