MURFREESBORO - The men's tennis team won it's third straight match today after beating Virginia State University 6-3. Today's win marks the team's 4th of the season and now they stand at 4-5 overall.
Chowan took wins in the #1 through #4 singles matches but dropped their #5 and #6 singles matches. They took the top two doubles matches in today's 6-3 win.
Darik Gilman picked up his first season win at the #1 singles spot after beating his opponent 6-7 (2), 6-3, 10-5. #2 Mike Fencil won in three sets over VSU's Gardinier 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 while Raitis Abolins won #3 singles 6-4, 6-3. Abolins earned this week's NCCAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping the Hawks to two wins last week. Abolins has won three straight singles matches. Adam Moneypenny won #4 singles 6-2, 6-0.
Gilman and Abolins paired up to win #1 doubles 8-3 while Moneypenny and Jonathan Walker won 9-7 in the #2 doubles match. The Hawks will play their final match of 2008 on April 15th at North Carolina Wesleyan.
