Baseball Drops Opener with North Greenville

GREENVILLE, SC - The baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision to North Greenville this afternoon to open the three game road series with the Crusaders. Today's loss marks the team's third consecutive loss and moves them to 23-15 overall. The Hawks are coming off two losses at #11 USC-Aiken.

Chowan scored first in the 3rd inning when Zack Beasley knocked in Jordan Whitlatch with a single. PJ Sadler gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to score David Hughes. The Crusaders had a solo homerun in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the Hawks lead to 2-1. They went on to score the winning runs in the 8th inning to take the game with a final score of 3-2.

BJ Byerly started the game, tossing five innings of shut out ball. John Morris came in for relief of Byerly giving up the solo homerun. Brandon Hamlett attempted the save after coming in the 8th inning but game up two runs to pick up the loss.

Chowan was held to nine hits with Hughes getting three of them. Beasley was 1-4 with an RBI.

The Hawks will play the Crusaders in a double header tomorrow at 1:00pm.
