Box Score 2 STAUNTON, VA - The baseball team moved to 23-12 after beating Southern Virginia in a doubleheader this afternoon. Chowan won game one 17-5 and game two 10-0. Today's sweep marks fourth year skipper Aaron Carroll's 100th win as the head coach at Chowan.
Ironically, today's games were played at Carroll's former high school, Fort Defiance High School, in Staunton. Along with Carroll, the five seniors on the squad also reached the 100 win mark after today's doubleheader sweep.
The Hawks banged out 16 hits on their way to beating the Knights 17-5 in game one. PJ Sadler had four hits in five at-bats with three RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Zack Beasley had two hits, three RBI, and two runs scored while Nate Mitchell, Justin Hollingsworth, and Billy Walling each had two hits and two RBI in the win. BJ Byerly improved to 6-1 overall after tossing 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out six Knight batters.
Chowan won game two with a final score of 10-0. Chris Nelson threw the complete game shut out. He struck out six batters and scattered four hits in the game for his 5th win of the season on the mound. Beasley was 1-2 with two RBI and two runs scored while Hollingsworth was 2-4 with two RBI.
The Hawks, now 23-12 on the season, will travel to USC-Aiken and North Greenville next week in their next match ups.
