Hawks Edge Braves for Win

MURFREESBORO - With his team trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning, Billy Walling drilled a two-run homer to put Chowan up 5-4 and get the eventual win. Walling ended the day 3-4 with two homeruns, three RBI, and two runs scored.

The Hawks combined the efforts of three arms to help propel them to victory. Anthony O'Brien picked up the win after throwing 5.0 innings, giving up six hits, four runs, and striking out three UNC-Pembroke batters. John Morris pitched three effective innings before setting up Brandon Hamlett for the save in the 9th inning. Morris gave up one hit and struck out two in three innings of work while Hamlett closed the game out in the 9th with two hits.

Chowan out hit the Braves 11-9 with Walling getting three of the Hawks' 11 hits. Matt Crane was also 3-4 at the plate and knocked in one run. For UNC-P, Jon-Jon Mirra was 3-4 while Edmond Locklear was 2-3 with two RBI. Matt Key picked up the loss for the Braves after throwing 4.0 innings, giving up five runs, and striking out two batters.

The Hawks are currently 12th in the NCCAA National rankings and 2nd in the region behind Southern Wesleyan College.

They will travel to Southern Virginia on Saturday.
