Hawks Open FMU Tournament with Two Losses

FLORENCE, SC - After yesterday's play at the FMU Invitational was rained out, play resumed today where they Hawks dropped two games. Chowan entered today's play with an 8-8 overall record but fell to 8-10 after the losses.

The Hawks were originally scheduled to play three games today but field conditions forced tournament officials to limit today's play to afternoon only games. Chowan played first against Lenoir-Rhyne College where they fell in five innings 11-0. Shellie Wimpey pitched in the game, grabbing the loss after giving up 11 hits, 11 runs, and striking out seven batters. Chowan had three hits as a team with Jenna Lassiter going 2-3 and Kaytee McLaughlin grabbing the third hit.

Chowan faced off against Lander University in their second game where they fell 5-2. The Hawks held a 2-1 lead until the fourth inning when Lander scored four runs on two homeruns. Sara Teh pitched the loss, going five innngs and giving up five earned runs. The Hawks had eight hits as a team with Tricia Gorman going 2-4 to pace the team.

Chowan will play Clarion University (PA) and #18 Francis Marion University tomorrow.
