UNC-Pembroke Halts Hawks Winning Streak

PEMBROKE - UNC-Pembroke put an end to the softball team's six-game win streak after taking a doubleheader today 12-0 and 4-1. The losses drop Chowan to 16-24 overall while UNC-Pembroke, ranked in the NFCA top 20 earlier this year, to 33-10 on the season.

The Hawks lost game one 12-0 after being held to one hit and committing three errors. Allie Hunka tallied the solo hit in the game while Shellie Wimpey suffered the loss on the mound. The junior gave up 12 hits and 12 runs, nine of which were earned, while also walking nine batters.

Chowan tallied three hits in game two and held the Braves to six hits but a three-run third inning was enough for UNC-Pembroke to hold on to the 4-1 win. Tricia Gorman was 2-3 at the plate while Brooke Owen tallied the Hawks other hit. Krystle Thomas took the loss on the mound. The freshman hurler threw six innings, scattering six hits and giving up four runs, three of which were earned.

The Hawks will play three days in a row with Catawba College on the road on April 1st. They return home to host Virginia State and Meredith on the 2nd and 3rd. All games are set for 2:00p.m.
