Softball Sweeps at Virginia State

Lauryn Myer was 4-5 in today's DH

ETTRICK, VA - The softball team kept their win streak alive with a doubleheader sweep at Virginia State University on Friday afternoon. The wins mark the team's sixth straight and improve the Hawks to 16-22 overall.

The Hawks blanked the Trojans 9-0 in game one after tallying eight hits through five innings of play. Brooke Owen was 3-3 with two runs scored while Melissa Woodrum was 1-2 with three RBI. Shellie Wimpey pitched one of her two wins on the day. Wimpey pitched five innings and gave up just one hit in the game.

Chowan rolled in the nightcap with a 15-0 win. Wimpey also picked up the win after throwing three innings while Krystle Thomas came in to throw the last two innings. Owen, Kaytee McLaughlin, and Lauryn Myer combined for nine of the team's 16 hits, a new season high. All three were 3-4 at the plate. Myer added three RBI and three runs scored.

The Hawks tallied their highest hit total of the year in the sweep and will head to UNC-Pembroke on Saturday for a doubleheader.
