Box Score 2 LAURINBURG, NC - The baseball team split a doubleheader at St. Andrews College this afternoon moving them to 18-11 overall. The Hawks won game one with a final score of 10-6 but fell in the nightcap 13-4.
Three swings of the bat accounted for seven of the Hawks ten runs in the first game. Joey Ryder belted a three-run homerun while Billy Walling and Matt Crane each had two-run homers. The Hawks got a solid performance from senior Brandon Hamlett on the mound. Hamlett, now 4-2, threw six innings, giving up seven hits, four runs, but striking out five Knight batters. The Hawks totaled nine hits in the game with Brian Hill having the only multiple hit game after going 2-4 on the day.
Game two was all Saint Andrews as they scored 13 runs to the Hawks' four. Chowan's Spencer Fagan started on the mound and picked up the loss after giving up eight hits and eight runs through 2.1 innings of work. Nate Stanton, PJ Sadler, and David Hughes each had two hits for Chowan in the game. Ryder also contributed a solo homerun.
The Hawks will host North Greenville University on Friday and Saturday in a three-game series. Friday will be a single, nine inning game but Saturday will feature a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2:00p.m. on Friday and 1:00p.m. on Saturday.
