Box Score Box Scores vs. Pace
MURFREESBORO - The baseball team fell to 15-10 on the season after suffering a tough loss to Pace University (NY) this afternoon with a final score of 10-9. The Hawks battled back to tie the game in the 6th inning but gave up a run in the top of the 9th to lose the game.
Pace got on the board first after scoring two runs in their first at-bat. The Setters scored two runs to open the frame on three hits. The Hawks answered in their first at-bat with one run after Zack Beasley singled and grabbed an extra bag. With Beasley at second, shortstop PJ Sadler doubled to right center field, driving in Beasley and cutting the Pace lead to 2-1.
After a scoreless second inning, the Setters scored three runs in the top of the 3rd inning to stretch their lead to 5-1. Once again, the Hawks answered with a two run inning in their next at-bat. The Hawks took advantage of an error and three singles to edge closer to the Setters at 5-3. Pace scored two more times in their next at-bat but Chowan exploded for four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning.
Zack Beasley led the inning off with a double to right center field. Sadler and Justin Hollingsworth singled and Nate Mitchell knocked Sadler in from second on a single. The Hawks took a 9-7 lead after scoring two more runs in their ensuing at-bat. Pace bounced back to tie the game in the 6th inning and
proceded to hold the Hawks scoreless for the remainder of the game. Pace scored a run in the top of the 9th to bust up the three inning long tie and take the eventual win.
Chowan tallied 13 with Sadler going 3-5 with two RBI while Matt Crane and Mitchell each added two hits and two RBI. Brandon Hamlett picked up the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the 9th inning.
The Hawks will travel to North Carolina Central University tomorrow.
