FLORENCE, SC - The baseball team held on to edge out #15 ranked Francis Marion University this evening with a final score of 7-6.
Francis Marion, who was ranked as high as 7th in the nation this season in Division II baseball trailed most of the game this evening. The Hawks were able to hold onto their lead despite a last inning push by Francis Marion.
Left fielder Zack Beasley and shortstop PJ Sadler each had two hits for the visiting Hawks. Sadler also had an RBI, while Billy Walling's two-run double highlighted a four-run third frame for Chowan. The Hawks also scored runs off a passed ball, a wild pitch, and a Patriot error.
Right-hander Brandon Hamlett (3-1) earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings.
With the win, the Hawks move to 15-8 on the season. These two teams will meet again tomorrow night in Florence, South Carolina. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
