SAVANNAH - The softball team continued their losing skid as they dropped two games at the SCAD Smash Hit Tournament. Today the Hawks lost to West Chester 3-1 and Kutztown 6-3 to run their losing skid to seven games. Chowan will continue play at the Smash Hit Tournament through Friday before returning home Sunday to host Bloomfield College.
In their loss to West Chester the team tallied just five hits and were led by Allie Hunka who finished the game at 2-3 at the plate. Shellie Wimpey picked up the loss after giving up five hits, three runs, and striking out four batters.
Chowan played Kutztown again today after falling to them yesterday 8-3. Today they suffered the same fate, falling 6-3. Chowan's Kaytee McLaughlin accounted for the teams' runs as she had a three-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. Melissa Woodrum pitched six innings in the loss where she gave up seven hits and six runs.
The Hawks will play Saint Francis and West Chester tomorrow.
