SAVANNAH - The softball team dropped two games on the opening day of the SCAD Smash Hit Tournament this afternoon. The Hawks faced off against NCAA DII powerhouse Bloomsburg University and then played West Liberty State later in the day.
The Hawks fell 10-0 in five innings to Bloomsburg University. BU held Chowan to just three hits in the game with Melissa Woodrum going 2-2. Freshman Megan Bass was 1-2 at the plate while Sara Teh picked up the loss on the mound. Teh threw 5.0 innings, striking out three batters and giving up 12 hits.
The Hawks fell 1-0 to West Liberty on an unearned run in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Hawks were held to two hits the game, both by Tricia Gorman who finished the day 2-3. Shellie Wimpey pitched the game, allowing three hits and one run.
The Hawks will play tomorrow at 10:00a.m. versus Kutztown and then at 2:00p.m. versus Armstrong Atlantic State. The Hawks now sit at 9-13 on the season.
