Box Score 2 Box Scores vs. Fairmont State
MURFREESBORO - The baseball team moved to 3-2 on the season after splitting a doubleheader with Fairmont State this afternoon. Chowan won the first game handedly at 10-3 while they fell in the nightcap 5-3.
The Hawks hammered out 13 hits in the first game and used a five-run sixth inning to put the game away. Brian Hill moved to 2-0 on the mound after throwing 5.1 innings, scattering eight hits, and giving up three earned runs. Mark Peterson picked up his first save of the season after throwing 1.1 innings in relief.
PJ Sadler and Robert Weaver paced the Hawks offensively with three hits apiece. Weaver also knocked in two runs in the win.
The Hawks suffered a 5-3 loss in the nightcap with Brandon Hamlett getting the loss on the mound. Hamlett threw three innings, giving up three runs, one of which was earned. Fairmont State scored three runs in the third inning to get on top of Chowan. They added two more in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-3 to take the eventual win.
David Hughes had the Hawks only multiple hit game with two hits. Joey Ryder knocked in two of the Hawks three runs. Fairmont State moves to 1-1 on the year after today's split. The two teams will finish the three game series tomorrow with a 12:00pm single, nine inning game.
