Women's Basketball Drops Game to #1 Puerto Rico-Bayamon

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The women's basketball team fell to #1 seeded Puerto Rico-Bayamon 74-63 in second day action of the Independent Classic hosted by The University of the District of Columbia. The loss puts the Hawks at 10-19 on the year while PR-Bayamon improve to 20-3 on the year.

After trailing 41-22 at the half, the Hawks battled back to outscore PRB 41-33 in the second half after shooting 48% from the floor. Their first half deficit was too much to overcome however, and the Hawks suffered their 19th loss of the year. AJ O'Banion came off the bench to score 22 points and grab nine reounds. Freshman Najah Harris chipped in 11 points from the point guard position while also dishing out six assists and getting three steals.

Chowan shot 40% (23-57) from the floor while PRB shot 37% (17-46) from the floor. The difference in the game fell beyond the three point arch and at the foul line as PRB made seven three pointers and hit 87% of their free throws taken while the Hawks had two made three pointers and  shot 63% from the charity stripe.

Chowan will wrap up play in the tournament on Tuesday as they play Central State University at 5:00p.m. Host team UDC and PRB will face off in the championship game at 7:00p.m. tomorrow night.
