MURFREESBORO - The men's tennis team evened their overall record at 1-1 after a 6-3 match victory of North Carolina Wesleyan this afternoon. Today marked the team's first home match as well as their first win of 2008.
The Hawks won two out of three doubles matches and four out of six singles matches. Mike Fencil and Rich Abolins paired up to take the #2 doubles match with a final of 8-5 over NCWC's Justen Hale and Matt Smith. Jonthan Walker and Tim Laurent-Russell played the #3 doubles match and beat their NCWC opponents with a final score of 8-1.
On the singles side, Chowan was able to get wins at the #2, #3, #5, and #6 matches. Abolins beat NCWC's Brandon Coleman in straight sets at 6-3 and 6-2 while Mike Fencil beat Hale 6-1 and 6-4. Adam Moneypenny won his #5 singles match over Kulpern Patel 6-4 and 6-1 while Russell beat NCWC's Wiggins with a final of 6-0, 6-2.
The Hawks will travel to Barton College tomorrow in their next match.
