MURFREESBORO - Chowan ran their win streak to six straight games after beating Post University (CT) in a doubleheader this afternoon. The Hawks won the first game 7-6 and the second game with a score of 4-0. Today's win move the Hawks to 11-3 overall.
The first game featured four lead changes with the Hawks getting the better of the Eagles in the end with a final score of 7-6. Chowan tallied 11 hits in the game while the Eagles had 10 hits. Justin Hollingsworth continued to stay hot at the plate after going 2-3 with three RBI. David Hughes was 3-4 with two runs scored in the win.
Brandon Hamlett picked up the win on the mound after throwing four innings, giving up six hits, four runs, and striking out three batters. Anthony O'Brien had a save after throwing the last inning, retiring four Eagles batters.
The nightcap was a pitchers duel untilthe Hawks finally broke the scoring open with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when PJ Sadler stole home. The went on to score three more unanswered runs two at-bats later to take the 4-0 win. BJ Byerly pitched six innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five batters. O'Brien came in to pitch the final inning, again retiring four batters faced. Sadler was 2-3 at the palte with two runs and one RBI.
Chowan will host Mount Olive College on Tuesday at 1:00pm in their next match up.
