Box Score MURFREESBORO - Chowan wrapped up the 2007-08 regular season with a 77-62 loss to Virginia Union University this evening, moving them to 11-15 on the year. The Panthers entered the the game ranked #6 in the South Atlantic Region and in the top 20 nationally.
The Panthers took a 50-33 lead into halftime after shooting 66% from the floor (19-29) and holding the home standing Hawks to 34% (12-35) from the floor in the first half. Chowan would shot 37% in the game while Virginia Union stayed hot in the second half, hitting 53% of their shots taken.
For Chowan two players scored in double figures, led by freshman Charles Rhodes who tallied 17 points on a 5-9 three point shooting night. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists. Roderick Ramsay scored 12 points and had eight rebounds in the loss.
For Virginia Union, Braxton Byerson had a game-high 23 points while Brandon Byerson chipped in 18 points. The Hawks will host the NCCAA South Region Tournament March 10-12 at the Helms Center. Check back later for tournament bracket details.
