Box Scores vs. UNC-P
MURFREESBORO - The women's basketball team dropped to 1-7 on the year after falling to UNC-Pembroke this evening with a final score of 62-47. Tonight's game featured eight ties and eleven lead changes but it was the Braves who were able to hang out to edge out Chowan in the end.
The Braves took a slight 25-22 lead into halftime. Chowan took a 32-29 lead when Alicia McMorris nailed at three-pointer at the 15:31 mark of the second period. It didn't last long as UNC-Pembroke's Briana Stanton made a lay up and DeDe Cotton hit a three pointer on their next two possessions to get up on the Hawks 34-32. Cotton would later bust a 39-39 tie with just over ten to play in the game. The Braves started to pull away from the Hawks over the final ten minutes of the game and went on to win 62-47.
The Hawks hit just 29% (13-45) of their shots taken from the field on the night while the Braves shot 34% (19-56). Brittany Nicholson paced Chowan's scoring attack with 13 points. She also had five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. For UNC-Pembroke JaToya Kemp had a game-high 15 points.
The Hawks will host Cheney University (PA) on Sunday at 2:00pm in their next match up.
