Hawks Win Fourth Straight with Win over Cheney

MURFREESBORO - Chowan won their fourth straight this afternoon in a thrilling game against Cheney University. The Hawks hung on to a 81-75 win in a game that featured 11 ties and 18 lead changes. Aaron Scott poured in 23 points and dished out a key assist in the waning seconds of the game that helped to put the game out reach for the visiting Wolves.

With Chowan holding a narrow 76-75 lead, Scott penetrated the lane with :13 left on the clock and found an open Layth Mansour who nailed a three pointer and gave the Hawks a 79-75 lead. Jaleel Nelson hit 2-2 from the charity stripe with two ticks on the clock to give Chowan the 81-75 win.

Aaron Scott had 23 points in the game along with three assists. Mark Brown had 18 points and four rebounds in the win while Nelson joined him in double figures with 12 points.

The Hawks shot 47% in the game (26-55) and ran their win streak to four straight games. Chowan improves their overall record to 6-5 on the year while Cheney, who came in undefeated, now moves to 5-1. Chowan took care of the ball as they turned the ball over just six times over forty minutes.

Chowan will take off for the semester break and return to the hardcourt in January. Columbia Union College will come to the Helms Center on January 3rd for a 2:00pm tip.
