Box Scores vs. Virginia State
ETTRICK, VA - The women's basketball team fell to 2-8 on the year after dropping a 52-41 decision at Virginia State University. The Trojans, now 8-1 on the year, forced 24 Chowan turnovers and held the Hawks to 31% (15-48) from the floor.
Both the Trojans and the Hawks struggled to score points in the first half after more than a week off from competition but it was Virginia State who took a narrow 28-21 lead into the break. The Trojans' defense kept Chowan to just 24% from the field in the second half to pull out the 52-41 win over the visiting Hawks.
AJ O'Banion scored a team-high 10 points and was the only player for Chowan to net double figures on the night. Acquanette Simmons had eight points and seven boards while Najah Harris also contributed eight points in the loss. For Virginia State, Angela Brown had a game-high 15 points.
The Hawks will round out their tough first semester schedule with two road games. This Saturday they will travel to play NCAA DI, High Point University in a 4:00pm match up. On the 30th they will travel to St. Andrews College for a 6:00pm tip off.
