Chowan knocks off Mount Olive, Defending CAC Champs

MURFREESBORO - Chowan's men's basketball team stifled the Mount Olive College Trojans tonight in a 93-58 blow out. Chowan shot 64% (30-47) from the floor, including hitting 8-14 from three point land, in the win. Chowan's defense forced 19 Trojan turnovers where they converted 27 of their total points.

Mount Olive took an early lead but Layth Mansour's layup at the 14:43 mark of the first period gave Chowan a 8-6 lead, which they would never give up. The Hawks took a 52-32 lead into the halftime break. Mount Olive struggled to get going offensively as the Hawks defense forced 19 total turnovers, including 12 in the second half.

Layth Mansour poured in a game-high 23 points and was perfect from the floor after hitting 9-9 and 5-5 from the charity striple. Aaron Scott came off the bench to spark Chowan's offense with 20 points. Scott nailed 4-6 from beyond the three point arch and was 7-15 from the floor overall. Jaleel Nelson was nearly perfect from the field tonight as he netted 18 points on a 5-6 performance from the floor and 7-7 performance at the free throw line. The Hawks made 25-28 as a team from the charity stripe tonight. Mark Brown scored seven points, had four assists, and three steals in the win.

Tonight's win moves Chowan to 4-5 on the year while Mount Olive drops to 2-4 on the season. The Hawks will tip it up with the Trojans one week from today, December 17th at Mount Olive. That tip is slated for 7:30pm.
