Hawks Come Out onTop in Battle with Virginia State

Chowan Men Pick Up First Season Win

ETTRICK, VA - In a game that featured eleven ties and eight lead changes, Chowan and Virginia State battled out forty minutes of basketball tonight. But the Hawks came away with the 76-73 victory. Mark Brown nailed a 15 foot baseline jumper with :06 to play to give Chowan a 75-73 lead. Jaleel Nelson iced the game just seconds later after hitting 1-2 from the charity stripe. Tonight's win is the first of the season for Chowan while the Trojans fall to 2-3 overall.

Mark Brown scored seven points in the win, the most pivitol points coming with the clock winding down. The Hawks had one of the season's best shooting performances as they hit 59% of their shots taken,including hitting 9-17 from three point territory. Four Chowan players scored in double figures led by Aaron Scott and Lando Morrison who both chipped in 13 points. Charles Rhodes and Jaleel Nelson scored 12 points each in the win. Nelson iced the game for the Hawks after hitting one out of two foul shots with :03 to play in the game.

Chowan took care of the ball with just 12 turnovers and forcing the Trojans to commit 14 turnovers.  Nate Walchuk dished out six assists and contributed eight points.
