ROCKY MOUNT, NC - The women's soccer team shut down NC Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon, winning with a final match score of 5-0. Both Katie Perkins and Ashley Bradford scored two goals in the shut out victory.
Perkins got the scoring started for Chowan when she chipped in a shot over the Bishops' keeper from 20 yards out just five minutes in to the match. Bradford gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead after hitting a shot from 30 yards out in the 39th minute. After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Hawks didn't stop their offensive attack there. Bradford found Perkins next to the goal where she touched it past the Bishops' keeper once again to give Chowan a 3-0 lead. Bradford took a through ball from Katie Duncan and scored her second goal of the match in the 59th minute to put Chowan up 4-0. Meredith McCarthy rounded out the scoring when she took a crossed ball from Duncan and put it in the back of the net for a 5-0 lead and eventual win.
Kristy Brown was credited with her fifth shut out of the season after playing in goal for 90 minutes and getting six stops.
The Hawks will travel to Coker College on October 22nd in a double header with the men's squad for their next outing.
