Women Fall to Virginia State

MURFREESBORO - The women's basketball team dropped to 2-11 on the year after falling to Virginia State University with a final of 71-55. The Trojans shot 50% (27-54) from the floor in the game to help propel them to victory over the homestanding Hawks .

Chowan got down by as many as 14 points in the first period but bounced back to cut the Trojan lead to 30-24 at the half. The Hawks battled in the second period to cut the lead to four points at the 17:33 mark. Virginia State took their lead to double digits just four minutes later and kept the Hawks at bay for the remainder of the game, winning with an eventual score of 71-55.

The Hawks hit just 15-46 from the floor for 33% but grabbed 33 rebounds, as did Virginia State. AJ O'Banion continued to lead the Hawks offensively with 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in 24 minutes of play. Ashley Banks had eight points and was 2-6 from three point land.

For VSU, Katania Walker netted a game-high 21 points on a 4-6 three point performance night. Eugenia Carson followed closely with 18 points and nine rebounds.

VSU moves to 4-5 overall while the Hawks fall to 2-11 on the year. Chowan will host Virginia Union University on January 10th in their next match up. Tip off for that game is set for 5:00pm.
