Box Score vs. WVU-Tech

MURFREESBORO- The Chowan University women's basketball team fell to 5-14 on the year after losing to West Virginia University-Tech by the final score of 67-53.

Both teams played a fast paced game in the first half with neither team being able to pull away from one another.  In the opening minutes of the game the Hawks and Golden Bears were going back and forth trading baskets.  The Golden Bears were able to build a slight lead mid way through the first half and hang on to it for the rest of the game.

The Hawks were able to play fast and keep up with the tempo of the game.  The Hawks held WVU-Tech to 40% shooting in the first half.  However, the Hawks were only able to shoot 38% from the floor in the first half.  The Golden Bears were able to take a 35-27 lead into halftime.

The pace quickened even more at the start of the second half.  This time the Golden Bears were able to take control, going on an early run to stretch out their lead to 10.  The Golden Bears never relinquished that lead as they were able to stretch their lead to as much as 12 points mid way through the second half.

The Hawks did not go away, they kept crawling back into the game, even cutting the lead to as little as 6 points with under 10 minutes left.  However, every time the Hawks punched, WVU-Tech was able to punch back, which made it difficult for the Hawks to make a run at the lead.  The Golden Bears stretched their lead back to 10 after Shy Wright was able to convert an old fashioned 3-point play with under 6 minutes left in the game.  From there the Golden Bears were able to convert their free throws and win the game.

The Golden Bears were led by Shy Wright who had 13 points and 7 rebounds.  Tiowanna Spann also pitched in 11 points and 6 rebounds for WVU-Tech.

The Hawks were led by Jashonda Crawford who had 13 points and 4 rebounds.  The Hawks AJ O'Banion also netted 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Hawks are now off until January 25th as they travel to Allen University for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
