Box Score Box Score vs. Virginia Union
RICHMOND- The Hawks dropped their first game this week by falling to the Panthers of Virginia Union, 70-59 on Thursday night.
The Hawks were able to hang tight to the Panthers during the first half. Going into halftime the Hawks trailed by only six, 35-29. The Hawks only shot 36% from the field during the first half, compared to Virginia Union who shot 48% from the field.
The difference in the second half was once again shooting percentage. The Hawks improved slightly shooting just 39% from the field. The Bears however were able to shoot 56% from the field in the second half which was the difference in the game. With a strong shooting performance the Bears were able to hang on and pick up the win.
The Panthers were paced by leading scorer Brad Byerson who had 27 points, 4 assists, and 8 rebounds. The Panthers Gregg Thondique also helped by netting 13 points, 2 assists, and 9 rebounds.
The Hawks were led by Jaleel Nelson who scored 13 points, had 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Hawks Joe Brice also had 11 points to help the Hawks.
The Hawks moved to 6-9 on the season and continue their road trip on Saturday January 12th when they travel to Allen University.
