MURFREESBORO-  The Hawks picked up their third win of the season tonight as they topped CIAA foe Virginia Union.  The Hawks were able to control the tempo of the game, which in turn led to their success throughout the game.

The first half got off to a slow start as each team traded turnovers multiple times before Chowan got on the board with a three pointer from Tameka Christopher almost four minutes into the game.  From their the Hawks and Panthers battled throughout the first half with neither team able to gain a substantial lead.  At the half the Hawks led by just one point taking a 26-25 lead into halftime.

The second half was played much like the first as each team played physical.  At times the play got too physical as two players from each team were ejected from the game mid-way through the second half.  As emotions calmed down both teams locked in to try to get the win.

Chowan was able to stretch their lead to as much as 10 when Tameka Christopher hit a 3-pointer with 6:00 minutes left.  However, Virginia Union kept climbing back.  After a made three by Virginia Union's Dashia Chandler the Panthers were back in the game.  Virginia Union kept inching closer, but every time they would get close the Hawks were able to diminish the Panther's run with key shots from both Ashley Banks and Tameka Christopher.  The Hawks went 12-18 from the free throw line in the second half which sealed the deal for the Hawks.  After making their free throws down the stretch the Hawks were able to win 56-50.

The Panthers were led by Samantha Traynham who had 17 points and 8 rebounds for Virginia Union.  Panthers guard Dashia Chandler also had a solid game netting 10 points.

The Hawks were led by Tameka Christopher who 17 points on the night, not far behind was Ashley Banks who netted 12 points for the Hawks.  The Hawks move to 3-11 on the season and host North Greenville University at the Helms Center on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
