Volleyball Goes 5-0, Wins Chowan Invitational

MURFREESBORO - The women's volleyball team improved to 8-2 on the year after going 5-0 to to win the 1st Annual Chowan University Invitational this afternoon. The Hawks won 15 out of 16 games while on their own court. Their only game loss of the tournament came in the finals against North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Chowan beat the Bishops this morning to move to 4-0 in the tournament and drop North Carolina Wesleyan to 2-1. The Bishops battled to beat Peace College to earn a spot at topping the Hawks in the championship. It didn't happen as the Hawks won 3-1 to take the tournament.

The Hawks posted big numbers in the match win with Kristen Stroud getting 22 kills and 3 blocks and Antoinette McCollough getting 24 kills and 5 blocks. Nicole Shoup had 27 digs while Stacey Davis had 61 assists in the win.

All Tournament team members included Peace's Erin Pike, North Carolina Wesleyan's Brittany Insley, and Chowan's Nicole Shoup, Stacey Davis, and Antoinette McCollough. Chowan's Kristen Stroud was named the Tournament MVP.

The Hawks were presented the championship plaque at center court by Chowan University President, Dr. Chris White and Director of Athletics, Dennis Helsel.

The Hawks will travel to Roanoke Bible College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match.
