Men's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime

Josh Cenci had 14 saves in loss to Coker

Box Score vs. Coker

MURFREESBORO- The Chowan fans were treated to another stellar soccer game on Saturday afternoon.  However, this time the Hawks were on the losing end of a great game.

The scoring was started by the Hawks in the 13th minute when Freshman Alex Kinnon took a free kick and dropped it into the back of Coker's goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.  The Cobras tied the game in the 34th minute when Matthew Jarrett put Coker on the board.  Five minutes later the leading scorer for the Hawks, Ali Abdi continued his offensive onslaught to put the Hawks up 2-1.  Then in the 65th minute off an errant pass Coker's Mike Crook tied the game at 2.

The Hawks and Cobras went back and forth in regulation with neither team being able to net the winning goal.  The first overtime went quickly with no team putting a goal on the board.  In the second overtime however the game got intense.  After a missed penalty kick for the Cobra's and two more open net attempts Coker was finally able to cash in the winning goal in the 109th minute when Don Jackson netted the winning goal off of Matthew Jarrett's rebound.

Josh Cenci turned in another stellar performance in goal for the Hawks stopping 14 shots.  The loss pushes the Hawks to 1-3 on the year.  Chowan returns to action September 5th as Guilford College travels to Chowan for a 4:00 pm start.
