Hawks Rally to Beat Mount Olive in Overtime

Chowan's Ashley Bradford netted three goals in tonight's win

MOUNT OLIVE - The women's soccer team erased a four-goal deficit to beat Mount Olive College on the road with a final score of 5-4.

Trailing 4-0 at the half, Chowan scored four unanswered goals in the second period to tie the game at 4-4 and force an overtime period. Chowan's Ashley Bradford (pictured above) had the game-winning goal in overtime to pick up the win.

Kermithia Abernathy got the scoring started for Chowan, bringing the Hawks within three scores of the Trojans. Bradford scored the second goal of the half to pull Chowan within two goals. Stephanie Montague scored on a penalty kick and Bradford scored her second goal of the game to knot the match at 4-4. Bradford went on to hit the game-winner in the overtime to even the Hawks overall record at 1-1.

The Hawks outshot the Trojans 24 to 14 in the match. Bradford accounted for 10 shots for the Hawks with her first hat trick of the season. Abernathy tallied one goal and one assist in the win while Meredith McCarthy and Katelyn Mahoney each had an assist. Kristy Brown played 92:13 minutes in goal, allowing four goals and getting six saves.

The Hawks will host Coker College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in their next match up.
