MURFREESBORO - The Hawks fell to 2-6 on the year after dropping a 63-50 decision to St. Andrews College this evening. The win for St. Andrews was the first of the year for them after entering tonight at 0-3.
The Hawks continued to struggle from the floor as they hit just 20-66 shots for a 30% shooting percentage on the night. St. Andrews took a 28-13 lead into the half but Chowan came out ready to play in the second period. They scored six straight points to cut the Knights' lead to nine points with just over 17:00 to play in the game. That's the closest that they would come to St. Andrews for the remainder of the game. The Knights got up by as many as 19 in the second half before beating the homestanding Hawks with a final 63-50.
St. Andrews shot 33% form the floor in the game (21-64) and grabbed 48 rebounds while the Hawks had a total of 47 rebounds, 15 of which came under the offensive boards. AJ O'Bannion paced Chowan with 15 points. She also grabbed four rebounds, had three blocks, and three assists in the loss. Freshman Brittany Nicholson joined O'Bannion in double-figures with 13 points. The freshman also grabbed six rebounds and had two assists. Keyon Sellers chipped in nine points, two assists, and four boards in the game.
For St. Andrews, Ericka Thompson led all scorers with 21 points on a 7-17 performance. Danielle Norman followed Thompson with 13 points, eight rebounds.
The Hawks, now 2-6 on the year, will take off through the exam week and hit the court again at the Coker College Classic on December 14th.
