#20 Mount Olive Hangs on to Edge out Hawks at Home

A Pair of Last Second Free Throws Enough to Beat Hawks

MURFREESBORO - Brandon Streeter sunk two free throws with the score knotted at 77-77 and :04 ticks on the clock to help lift the visiting #20 Mount Olive Trojans over the home standing Chowan Hawks with a final of 79-77. The Hawks cut a twenty-point deficit over the second half of play to tie the game with :50 to play in regulation but fell just short of the comeback they needed to knock off the Carolinas Conference perennial powerhouse.

After trailing 44-40 at halftime, the Hawks found themselves in a twenty-point hole with over ten minutes to play in the game. Slowly but surely the Hawks battled back, cutting the Trojan lead to ten points with just over 4:00 to play in the game. Chowan's Chris Kenon sunk back-to-back three pointer's to pull his team within six points of the Trojans. Chowan's Raul Tutelea grabbed a tough defensive rebound at the other end of the court and pushed it up court where Lando Morrison made a nice move to the bucket for the score. Jaleel Nelson intercepted a pass on the Trojan's ensuing possession where he was quickly fouled and sent to line. He hit both shots from the charity stripe to pull the Hawks with two points with 1:30 to play in the game.

On another tough defensive stand by the Hawks on the Trojan's next time down the court, Kenon forced a turnover and pushed it up the court where he found an open Aaron Scott. Scott made good on a baseline jumper to knot the game at 77-77 with :50 left to play in the game.

The Hawks were forced to foul at the other end of the court, sending Streeter to the line where he made the two free throws and put his team back on top 79-77. The Hawks got off one final shot at the buzzer but it rimmed out, and they fell with the final score of 79-77.

Kenon led all scorers in the game with 22 points. He was 8-14 from the floor and 4-7 from three-point land. He also had two assists and five steals in the game. Nelson netted 17 points and grabbed six boards while Scott chipped in 13 points off the bench.

For Mount Olive, Kendrick Easley scored 21 points while Streeter netted 20 points and seven boards. #20 Mount Olive moves to 5-1 after tonight's game while the Hawks fall back to even on the year at 4-4 overall.

Chowan will travel to Holy Family University on Saturday in their next match up.
