Former Chowan Standout Drafted by the NBDL

Trayvon Lathan was a 5th pick in the 6th round of the NBDL draft

PROVO, UTAH- Former Chowan Basketball standout Trayvon Lathan was the 5th pick of the 6th round in the NBA's Developmental League after last night's draft. He was chosen by the Utah Flash, the developmental team for the Utah Jazz and the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association.  This comes one week after Lathan signed an NBA league contract.

There is no surprise in the Chowan community after Lathan's four years as a Hawk.  During his time at Chowan he became the All-Time Leading scorer, was the 2007 South Region Player of the Year, a three time NCCAA All-American, and a two time NCCSIA All-State Player.

“We are proud of Trayvon and wish him the best of luck in his endeavors. He has been a loyal player to the Chowan program and helps continue the legacy that started with Nate MacMillan, Fred Vinson, and others before him,” stated Jim Tribbett, Head Men's Basketball Coach for Chowan University.  “This is a wonderful opportunity for him.”

The NBDL is the NBA's developmental league which acts as a filter system for NBA teams to groom young players for a possible future in the NBA.  There are fourteen teams in the NBA's developmental league.
