GREENSBURG, PA - The women's basketball squad opened the 2007-08 campaign on a winning note after beating St. Vincent 56-51 in the opening round of the Seton Hill Invitational this evening. The Hawks saw two players notch a double-digit game, including a double-double outing for freshman Brittany Nicholson.
The Hawks took a 24-18 lead into the half and held onto the lead despite being outscored 33-32 in the second half. The Hawks handedly won the battle of the boards 47-37 and shot 39% from the floor in the game.
AJ O'Bannion led the team in scoring as she netted 15 points and grabbed nine boards. The sophomore forward also had four blocks. Nicholson notched the first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Tameka Christopher hit three, three pointers for nine points but grabbed double-digit boards, bringing down 10 rebounds in the game.
After tonight's opening round win, they move into the championship game to be played tomorrow at 3:00pm. They will play the winner of the PSU-Greater Allegheny and Seton Hill game being played later this evening.
