North Greenville Passes Hawks at Home

MURFREESBORO - The football team fell to 1-7 on the year after falling to North Greenville University in an NCCAA match up 56-14 this afternoon. North Greenville amassed 635 yards of offense en route to their second win of the season.

North Greenville struck early in the game when at the 5:51 mark  of the first quarter Travis Talbert took a pass from Eric Moeller from nine yards out to score. Michael Sears split the uprights on the extra point to give North Greenville a 7-0 lead over the home standing Hawks. Just one minute later they capped off a seven play drive with another paydirt strike, this time Moeller hit Talbert from 15 yards out to score. The Crusaders went on to score three more first half touchdowns before Chowan could answer. With :01 remaining on the clock before halftime, quarterback Josh Floyd capped off a 74-yard drive with a 19 yard touchdown completion to receiver James Fox. Sophomore Cory Cline made good on the extra point attempt to cut the Crusaders lead to 35-7 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks were held to one score when Floyd took a quarterback keeper from 38 yards out to paydirt. Cline split the uprights to make the game 42-14 in favor of North Greenville. The Crusaders, who move to 2-6 on the season after today's win over Chowan, scored two more touchdowns in the game to take the eventual 56-14 win.

The Hawks gained 294 yards of offense, most of which came on the ground with 203 yards rushing. Floyd totaled 98 yards rushing to lead all Chowan runners while Jake Thorne had 79 yards on the ground. Defensively linebacker Kurt Carlson had a game-high 16 tackles with one sack. Gabe White had 12 tackles in the last home game of the season.

Chowan, who falls to 1-7 on the year after today's loss, will round out their 2007 season with three road games. Next week they will travel to Babson Park, Florida to play Webber International University.
