Hawks Shutout at Coastal Carolina

Box Score

CONWAY, SC - As an emerging NCAA DII team, playing against a NCAA DI-AA opponent is never an easy task and the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina University proved that tonight with a 51-0 victory over the visiting Chowan Hawks. Coastal Carolina is a member of the Big South Conference and improves to 2-4 overall after tonight's win. Chowan falls to 1-6 on the season after the loss.

Coastal Carolina used 15 different ball carries to account for 490 yards of rushing offense in the win while their defense held the Hawks to just 87 yards of total offense.

After two early take-aways by the Chowan defense, the Hawks couldn't get past the speed and size of the Chanticleers to put together any formidable drives and create momentum.  The Hawks were held to four first downs in four quarters of play.

Chowan had 87 yards of offense in the game, most of which came through the air. Starting quarterback Marcus Brown was 4-8 passing with 56 total yards before leaving the game with an injury. Brandon Myrick caught four passes for 41 yards while Spruce Lee led the ground attack with 29 yards on three carries. Defensively, newly transitioned from wide receiver, safety Anthony Hinton led the team with 12 tackles. Greg Palmer had 11 tackles while cornerback D'Angelo Goffingan had 8 tackles.

Chowan will host their final home game of the season with North Greenville University, last year's NCCAA National Champions, next Saturday, October 20th at 12:00pm. The game will serve as the Annual Hall of Fame game as well as senior day for the program.
