MURFREESBORO – The Apprentice School used a twenty-one point second quarter to propel them to victory over Chowan this afternoon 28-14. The Braves had five turnovers, two of which the Builders turned into scores.
The Braves scored on the opening drive of the game when
Taylor Furlough hit
Josh Floyd for a 27-yard strike on fourth down and nine to go. Nic Alejandro made good on the extra point to give the Braves a 7-0 lead.
Chowan's defense held off the Builders until the second quarter when they went on to score 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into the half.
Apprentice scored once in the third to go up 28-7 before Chowan answered in the fourth quarter when
Jack Ross capped off a 56-yard drive with a 4-yard scamper to the end zone. Alejandro cut the lead 28-14 with his extra point.
The Braves couldn't recover from the second quarter damage and eventually fell 28-14. For Chowan, Ross gained 101 yards on the ground on 17 carries.
Kevin Helmlinger was 7-16 for 110 yards and 1 interception.
On the defensive side of the ball
Shatae McEachin led all tacklers with 9 total, 2 for a loss, and 1 sack for a loss of 6 yards.
Gabe White had 8 tackles while Kyshawn Randall had 7 tackles with 1 sack for a loss of 8 yards.
Chowan falls to 1-3 on the year while Apprentice moves to 3-1 overall. Chowan will host Southern Virginia University at 12:00noon for Homecoming 2005.
