About Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Areas

The sports medicine staff at Chowan, which features five nationally certified trainers, have three sports medicine areas to utilize on campus. The main athletic training hub is centrally located for all teams inside the Hawks Athletic Center. The Hawks Athletic Center athletic training room features over 1,500 square feet of space. Inside the training room there are separate areas for treatment, taping, and rehabilitation. Athletes will also find two hot and cold-water whirlpools along with multiple training beds equipped with the latest treatment modalities. In addition to the main athletic training hub inside the Hawks Athletic Center, trainers and student-athletes have access to a fully equipped rehab room on the bottom floor of the Pond Center and an auxiliary treatment and assessment area in the Vincent Center.

The staff of five nationally certified athletic trainers in conjunction with local physicians work hard to quickly and efficiently treat athletes from all 22 athletic teams, cheerleading, and Esports. Dr. Frank Taylor and his wife, Joy Taylor, a registered nurse, provide general medical care to both student-athletes and the University community. Orthopedic medicine is maintained by Dr. Anthony Bevilacqua out of Suffolk, Virginia and Sentara Obici hospital.
